color

My last post, and many more in the past, had a predominantly black and white content. I ain't gonna lie, I love black and white. It has a timeless quality and a simplicity in the many shades of gray that forces the reader of the image to focus on what is happening, on the moment.
However, we live in a colorful world and colors sets the mood, affects how we feel and, in turn, behaves. A wedding dress may be white and the suit black but the rest is all colors.

'bout time

I finally got to come back to The Foundry for a wedding two weeks ago. This place has a special meaning to me since it was one of the first places I shot a wedding in New York when I moved here four years ago.
The Foundry is located in Long Island City, just south of the 59th Street bridge and a block from the East River where the views of Manhattan are spectacular. Just like the name suggests it was once a working foundry built in the very early 19th century. After the building stood empty and decrepit for many years the Du Val family bought it in 1980 and restored it to what it is today, an awesome event space with it's original industrial character.
Seth and Jamie may be one of the most fun couples I have had the pleasure to photograph. Ever since their engagement session last fall I have been looking forward to their wedding. I was not disappointed.

Today Seth really was king of the world.

botanique

Stephen and his groomsman going over the details in the morning.

This image and the one below is yet another example of how we need to help each other.

Lending a hand. Or eight.

Signed sealed and delivered.

first and last

I got an email this morning from a talented young photographer who happened to attend a wedding I shot two years ago. He was kind enough to include a photo from that wedding and I thought I'd share it here.
This is the first and most likely the only time I post a picture of myself. I like this photo because it just poses so many questions and leaves me wondering what was going on. Also, am I really that tall?

Thanks to Eric Strauss for the photo. Check out his site here.
